Lament for the Departure of King James was supposedly written for King James II of England and Ireland, King James the VII of Scotland, after being deposed in the Glorious Revolution of 1688. The Ground relies heavily on the ‘double echo’ rhythmic shape before moving into a technically challenging first Variation.
The Score can be found in the Piobabirachd Society Book 3 and the Kilberry Book.
